In today’s digital healthcare environment, nursing informatics plays a vital role in improving patient outcomes by integrating nursing science, computer science, and information science. Through electronic health records, clinical decision support systems, and data management tools, nursing informatics helps nurses and midwives deliver timely, accurate, and ethical care.

CODE OF ETHICS FOR NUSES WITH INTERPRETIVE STATEMENTS

The Code of Ethics for Nurses serves as a moral foundation for nursing practice, including the use of health information technologies. In nursing informatics, ethical principles such as confidentiality, privacy, accountability, and patient advocacy are essential.

this means ensuring that patient data entered into electronic systems are accurate, secure, and used only for appropriate clinical purposes. Ethical nursing informatics practice protects patients’ rights while promoting trust and professionalism in healthcare.

NURSING'S SOCIAL POLICY STATEMENT

The Nursing’s Social Policy Statement defines nursing’s commitment to society and explains the profession’s responsibilities in promoting health and well-being. The nursing informatics, this framework emphasizes the nurse’s role in using technology to improve healthcare delivery, patient safety, and health equity.

Through informatics, nurses and midwives contribute to better communication among healthcare teams, improved documentation, and evidence-based decision-making that supports quality patient care.

NURSING SCOPE AND STANDARDS OF PRACTICE

The Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice outline the roles, responsibilities, and competencies expected of nurses. Nursing informatics supports these standards by enhancing assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.

As a student midwife, understanding this model helps me appreciate how informatics systems support evidence-based practice, improve maternal and infant outcomes, and reduce medical errors.
